Hi I'm Helen (also known as Rae). I am an RHS award-winning artist and the creator behind The Wonders of Watercolour.
This channel is all about boosting your confidence as a watercolour artist, even if you are new to painting. Every TUESDAY I will upload a brand new video tutorial so that you can learn to create paintings that you can be proud of.
I will show you how to paint vibrant watercolour paintings using my proven technique, with easy to follow tutorials every week - using my learn as you paint approach.
You will learn how to assess colour, application methods to avoid messy overlays and how to bring your paintings to life, how to gain confidence with your painting with fast results. I will share with you how to rescue mistakes - we all get the 'watercolour wobbles' and it is a common mistake to start again - but it really isn't necessary

Painting Flowers Wet in Wet
Welcome to The Wonders of Watercolour. This week we are getting loose with our watercolour and working mostly wet in wet. By working wet in wet it gives our paintings a much looser style and a soft blurry look that anyone can paint, even if you are a beginner. I have listed all the materials that I have used in this tutorial below but please use what you have - we are all about getting people painting. If you did want to treat yourself to the stunning paints from Deep Deep Light, I have linked their website below, and be sure to quote DEEPDEEPRAE to receive a 10% discount off all of their watercolour paints. If you get stuck please comment in the comment section - I am always on hand to help. For the free photograph, join our free membership at Patreon which is linked underneath.

Hi Helen. I love your tutorials and tutorials I wish there was a way to order larger schetches. Im horrible at the computer so I end uo sketching on my own - no print. There are a lot of us older patrons that would be really happy to pay almost anything. Maybe you could ask your clientele. Again I love your tutorials. I love the fading flowers and your skills and voice.
Thank you Lesley. I appreciate your feedback. It would be impossible to supply several sizes of each outline which is why I do it this way. Are they printing too small or are you not printing them and working from the outline and need a larger one to look at please?
. Thank you Helen. I only use my smart phone. I realize it was way to much to ask. Maybe ask on one of your tutorials if users are interested in a large hard copy, offer one size only and only on New tutorials. If your members are old like myself, we would jump for joy. I know how to trace. It also would be a great way to differentiate yourself from other tutorials. Anyways. No need to reply. Just planting the seed that a lot of us cannot use a computer. Almost everyday I am painting. Thankyou so much!!!
@lesley.l.goodson thank you for the suggestion. Are you uk based? If so I’ll send you some
I'm not UK based. I live in Florida. I am now getting help from my husband. Again, Helen I am a big fan and thank you. My retirement years were pretty dull until I found you on youtube. Thanks again.

Such stunning colours xx

Helen, Caput Mortuum paint originally was made from mummies. I liked the Lavender paint. I am not a fan of watercolour paint mixed with white. What are the pigments in Lavender? It seems that the paint is perhaps semi-transparent love the slight pinky tone.
Thank you. I’m not sure of the pigment in lavender. I just love it 🥰
Helen, does the Lavender look like it has white added to the paint? Is it transparent or opaque?
@@snuuby5468 I can’t see white at all. I’d say semi opaque. You can check the pigment on the website
Most watercolour paints that are called Lavender are usually mixed with white paint as most pastel-coloured watercolour paints. I love how Deep Deep Light has made such a unique Lavender which separates and is not milky. It will be one of the paints that I would purchase.
@@snuuby5468 it really is stunning - DDL do have a little zinc oxide in there PW4 I think, but this beauty doesn't leave a white 'cast' that you sometimes get - as you can see from the swatch
I’m enjoying the DDL pans I’ve treated myself to. Just got Rae’s Blooms and haven’t finished swatching. But they are lovely. My heart skipped a beat when you opened that huge metal box of their pans. Capit Mortuum is pronounced mortu - um. Say both u’s. 🙂
Thank you very much and the help with the pronunciation. I knew I’d get it wrong LOL. I’m glad you’ve got the paints and that you’re pleased for them. They are absolutely beautiful and I know you’re going to love them. Keep an eye out for that prickly pear. It’s something else x

Hi! Just found your channel. My two daughters also have an AST diagnosis, which they got around 13 years of age. I wonder about those comments, why people has to critisise so many things that are not relevant at all. Why don't they just keep their mouth shut (or refrain from writing)? Good that you have found a way to deal with the comments. Your work is very beautiful indeed. 🥀
Thank you Tina. I guess it’s the downside of working online. However, I live my work so I’m pushing on x

I like the music, I sometimes have a hard time with sound when narration and music are at the same time, but you don't do that, so I am able to follow all instructions and enjoy the musical interludes :) thanks so much
Thanks, Anne. The only time I ever narrate over music is at the intro, but other than that, I agree that it can’t be distracting. X
Oh my, this is so brave of you to talk about this. 🥰
Thank you
could anyone tell me how I can convert a photo into an outline for photos I've taken myself? Not that I'm not loving it here, but I'd like to have a go at a photo of same subject using learning from here.
Hi Anne. The way I do it is in procreate by creating a layer on top of the image and then tracing it down that way. That’s the only effective way that you can get a good outline there are many apps that are available but they are rather sketchy (pardon the pun) since the outlines are not very good
SO delicate and beautiful!!!! Thank-you for giving us such a useful and calming tutorial ❤🎉🥰💕✨️👏❤️🐝
